Naturism in Nouvelle-Aquitaine, a modern way of life

Naturism has a long history that goes back to the Age of Enlightment and over the years, has become one of the main values of environmental-friendliness, sustainable development and mutual respect.

Naturism is in synch with new holiday tendencies and each year, it attracts several million holidaymakers in France, particularly in Nouvelle-Aquitaine. Wide open spaces and friendly moments away from modern life are what naturists seek.

On the Atlantic Coast

Our mild oceanic climate is probably what favoured the establishment of naturist sites along 250kms of coastline.

Space, pine trees for shade, long sandy beaches… this perfectly describes Montalivet’s Hélio Marin Centre (CHM), in Médoc. This is France’s oldest (1949) and Europe’s largest naturist holiday resort.

Each holiday resort has its own specificities: “Euronat” is the only centre that offers naturist thalassotherapy ; “Jenny” has a 10 hectare golf course ; “Arnaoutchot”, a true village with shops, restaurants, a cinema and discotheque, has many activities to offer, as does “Le Petit Dauphin” campsite in La Palmyre.

And because a healthy mind requires a healthy body, there are many sports and activities to partake in : canoeing, horse riding, cycling, archery, artistic activities...

In the countryside

Green naturism also has its fans. Corrèze or Périgord forests, crystal clear rivers, a beach at Vassivière lake, the hills of Lot-et-Garonne with orchards worthy of the Garden of Eden, all the way to the foot of the Pyrénées... It is wonderful to live in the intimacy and comfort of preserved nature.

You can even stay at an « Entre-deux-mers » wine resort in Bordelais vineyards, near Saint-Emilion (château Guiton), in a charming old stone farm, and discover all the gems our region has to offer: quaint villages, fortified towns, vineyards, museums, prehistoric sites, castles, art…

So many lovely places to enjoy!

Labels and Authorized Beaches… What you need to know ?

If you do not know the region well – or if you are new to naturism -, several associations are here to guide you.
Members of the Fédération Française de Naturisme (FFN) do not represent each and every site, club or holiday resort. However, the label it gives its members guarantees a certain number of rules on ethics, hygiene and comfort.
F.F.N. and Nouvelle-Aquitaine’s naturist holiday resorts are part of the Tourism and Naturism Cluster, one of Atout France’s 12 promotion clusters.
Two magazines, « La Vie au Soleil » and « Naturisme Magazine », edit a guide listing France’s naturist holiday resorts. There are nearly 30 in Aquitaine.
As for beaches, there are official supervised naturist beaches, beaches where naturism is accepted and tolerated by a bylaw and beaches where naturists have been spotted.
